2008 Saturn Challenge Cup

I just received this press release from the Wizards regarding another preseason friendly, only 1 week before the season starts for the Wizards. This will be the Wizards second Saturn Challenge Cup. It's close enough that it gives Wizards fans a chance for a quick early road trip to see their team play.

(February 8, 2008) – The Kansas City Wizards announced today that they will participate in the 2008 Saturn Challenge Cup held at 6 p.m. CT March 22 at John Crain Field on the campus of the University of Oklahoma in Norman. Kansas City will face Real Salt Lake in the Wizards second-ever appearance in the competition.

"Having the opportunity to play one week prior to the league opener against another MLS club in an area rich with soccer tradition provides us with a great environment to prepare for our home opener," Technical Director Peter Vermes said. "We look forward to participating in the 2008 Saturn Cup. It will help us start our regular season in a competitive fashion."

For tickets, visit ticketalternative.com here. Oklahoma City residents can purchase tickets at area Saturn dealerships. The Wizards participated in the inaugural Saturn Challenge Cup in 2006, defeating FC Dallas 1-0 on a Scott Sealy strike.

John Crain Field is located on the southeast corner of Chautauqua Avenue & West Imhoff in Norman, Okla. View a Google Maps link here.

Too bad the Saturn Cup picked RSL as one of the opponents.
